Title: Are Ouija Boards A Dangerous Game?

Blog Entry: Since this is my first attempt at a "Blog"  I thought I would begin with the question I am most frequently asked when someone finds out that I created and manufactured custom Talking (Ouija) boards for a living.  In this blog, I hope to address some of the common fears some people have regarding the tool, and my reasoning behind creating them. Oddly enough, when I first joined this site, the "Random Poll" on the first page was regarding just this very question.  So, I thought that this would be a good place to start, and give people a little bit of my background and philosophy regarding my profession.  I dont wish to open a debate - per se, just simply give my opinion regarding my personal experience and belief. If you wish to add your opinion, thats fine too, and know that I respect different opinions, but wont argue them. So, lemme begin with my response to the question:  Are Ouija Boards a dangerous game? I am a professional psychic/medium, and have been for over 20 ears now. I also owned a talking board manufacturing company by the name of "Speaking with Spirits". I do not consciously use a "spirit guide" during my readings/work, but rather depend on my own empathic discernments and sometimes tools. One of the tools that I have used for 30 years now is a Talking Board, and I can say in truth that I have never had a bad experience with one that I was not in complete control of. It is my personal belief that tools such as the Talking Board, Pendulum board and the like are based on a principle termed the ideomotor response (effect). The ideomotor response is an unconcious or involuntary bodily movement made in response to a thought or idea. For example: I might gasp when I see something that startles me, or give someone a quizical look when I am not comprehending what they are relaying to me. These are not neccessarily movements that I would consciously make, but are in direct response to a stimulus and are not completely reflexive, such as being struck on the knee by your doctor with that annoying little mallet device that they like to torture patients with during examinations. It is also my belief that the talking board is a marvelous tool for tapping into the subconscious mind and bringing the information, already available to it , to the forefront of the conscious mind. Much like tarot cards and many other divination devices do. Although I don't believe an apparition physically controls the movements of the planchette, it is very much a probability that the user is receiving and notating information via their own psychic abilities. Often times, when using the talking board, I will already know the words that are about to be spelled out, without the planchette making its way around the board. This is a rather common phenomenon amongst those that use the board often and with some proficiency. This just furthers my belief that I am simply using the tool to physically manifest and transcribe the information that I have already obtained by simply asking the question aloud and allowing my subconcious to gather the information and then transmit it forward. Often times as well, when someone uses the board and requests to test it by asking a question they already know the answer too, they might also unconsciously experience the ideomotor response and bring forward that information from their conscious minds and (although not intentionally) will spell out the correct answer. With this in mind, the question then becomes, how do we know that the information being gleaned from the subconscious mind isn't provided to it by a spirit? This is a great mystery that I have yet to fully answer for myself. When using a talking board many encounter a phenomenon that they don't believe they have the ability or skill to influence. One of the many reasons we create our boards is to bring about a better understanding of the tool, and to show that with patience and practice, everyone has the opportunity to experience their own psychic ability.     One thing I will say though is, to those that have had uncomfortable or bad experiences with their use of a ouija board:   when you open yourself up, and train yourself to receive subconscious (intuitive) information, you need to be aware that you must also learn how to consciously turn it off as well.   You have complete control over your experiencing.   If you can open a door, you can most surely close it as well.
