The Avrocar, a project kept secret by the government for some time until it was finally 

leaked to the public. I believe the project had started out in Canada but they had no 

progress with it so the plans were sold to America. The american government worked on it

for ages but all they could do was get this thing to hover a few feet off the ground. 

What it was actually meant to do was make transcontinental flights and be used for 

military purposes. However, the project failed and both prototypes of the avrocar were 

sent to different locations. One is in the National Space and Aeronautics Museum I 

believe and I am not sure of where the other one is.

That was indeed its original intent.  But it was also additionally used as a misinformation tool to the general public.  Because UFO sightings were very high during this time, the government had to find a way to dismiss them as being anything other than what they were.   This car helped to fill that gap.

for some reason that doesnt surprise me...I really wish that I could se the movie Area 51, my mom was one of the lucky ones to be able to see it before it was quickly removed from theaters......
