My House/Old Flour Mill
by Moriath

I have never really written all this down before, but going to give it a try. I moved here with two of my daughters almost 11 years ago. Myself and whatever is here reside along comfortably together, I am not afraid to live here. Its just interesting what kind of things happen. Though not as much as at some places!
This house was an old flour mill in the 1800s and was moved here around 1920. When I bought it, it needed much fixing up and we are still in the process!
One of the first incidents that told me that we were "not alone" was one night after I shut the lights out, I felt "somebody" sit on the edge of my bed. I was startled and practically FLEW to turn on the light. Of course there was no one there.
My youngest daughter used to see shadows in the hall and standing in front of her room. I am not sure why she was never really frightened, but thats the "feel" of this house. Non-threatening.
One day my middle daughter and I were sitting at the kitchen table, when a series of knocks came upon one of the kitchen doors leading into my oldest girls room. No one was in there at the time.
In October a couple of years ago, a "shadow man" went by the outside front door. It kind of glided.
We used to hear a lot of bumps and noises in the attic but havent for a couple of years now. We do not have a pest problem, so its anybodys guess what that was. It wasnt the whole old house settling thing though.
Once when my kids were coming inside when it was getting dark, they said they saw someone in my oldest daughters downstairs room. What is interesting about this is there was a teacher that passed away while living here, in that room.
Whenever we do any sort of work on the house, we usually hear someone in that area at night, as though they are checking it out.
The only thing that DID make the hair really stand up on the back of my neck happened outside.Twice. I had been taking the garbage out late at night, when I distinctly heard from around the side of the house "MOM!!!!". I thought, what the he**?? Both girls were in bed. I went over to see what my oldest girl (the voice I heard) wanted and of course, no one was there. So I just thought I was maybe imagining things. The next week, the same thing happened, only with my youngest daughters voice. Not since but then I dont generally take the garbage out in the evening anymore....
I am sure I am missing some experiences, but these are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head. Again, I love my house, its the only place I have ever lived that actually felt "safe".

It IS interesting, but fairly normal to me now, if that makes any sense?

Sounds haunted to me!  Interesting way to live , isn't it?  Thank you for posting this.

Yeah, I never felt as if there were anything to worry about here.
And yes, my children feel that way too. Regardless of anything that has happened, the atmosphere here has always been very comfortable. When things have happened our reaction is usually to look at each other, raise our eyebrows, and just go on with what we are doing. As far as research, the only other thing I know about the house (besides it being an old flour mill and "Jenny") is that long before I moved here and the alley was put across the back, there used to be some older buildings where a couple of old bachelors lived. In planting on this property we have dug up bricks and such. The house next to us was a button factory. LOL, I thought they were making it up but they made the buttons out of shells, much evidence of that also found.

Thank you for this wonderful story.  I am so glad that you feel safe there.  Have you ever done any research on the former occupants?  Do you know anything about the spot the house is standing on?  Are your children frightened or do they feel safe too?  I wish you the very best living in your home.  That is where the heart is.

Very interesting.  As long as you feel safe then I would think that there's nothing to worry about.  Personally, I know my grandmother comes to visit.  She has been seen by different family members at certain functions.  Usually Thanksgiving or Christmas (which was her birthday).  She likes to just sit there and watch all the kids playing.  No worries there, and I feel good to know that she's still around watching over the family.

Well you are welcome to check it out sometime if you want. I am sure there is quite likely explainable reasons for some of it! Its kind of a cluttery old house with myself, my last child left at home and the dogs. But its home.

Dang! I would love to experience some of that!
