My House/Old Flour Mill
Posted On 06/02/2008 03:06.41 PM

I have never really written all this down before, but going to give it a try. I moved here with two of my daughters almost 11 years ago. Myself and whatever is here reside along comfortably together, I am not afraid to live here. Its just interesting what kind of things happen. Though not as much as at some places!
This house was an old flour mill in the 1800s and was moved here around 1920. When I bought it, it needed much fixing up and we are still in the process!
One of the first incidents that told me that we were "not alone" was one night after I shut the lights out, I felt "somebody" sit on the edge of my bed. I was startled and practically FLEW to turn on the light. Of course there was no one there.
My youngest daughter used to see shadows in the hall and standing in front of her room. I am not sure why she was never really frightened, but thats the "feel" of this house. Non-threatening.
One day my middle daughter and I were sitting at the kitchen table, when a series of knocks came upon one of the kitchen doors leading into my oldest girls room. No one was in there at the time.
In October a couple of years ago, a "shadow man" went by the outside front door. It kind of glided.
We used to hear a lot of bumps and noises in the attic but havent for a couple of years now. We do not have a pest problem, so its anybodys guess what that was. It wasnt the whole old house settling thing though.
Once when my kids were coming inside when it was getting dark, they said they saw someone in my oldest daughters downstairs room. What is interesting about this is there was a teacher that passed away while living here, in that room.
Whenever we do any sort of work on the house, we usually hear someone in that area at night, as though they are checking it out.
The only thing that DID make the hair really stand up on the back of my neck happened outside.Twice. I had been taking the garbage out late at night, when I distinctly heard from around the side of the house "MOM!!!!". I thought, what the he**?? Both girls were in bed. I went over to see what my oldest girl (the voice I heard) wanted and of course, no one was there. So I just thought I was maybe imagining things. The next week, the same thing happened, only with my youngest daughters voice. Not since but then I dont generally take the garbage out in the evening anymore....
I am sure I am missing some experiences, but these are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head. Again, I love my house, its the only place I have ever lived that actually felt "safe".

My First Paranormal Experience
Posted On 06/01/2008 04:32.37 PM

My first paranormal experience happened when I was four, almost five years old. I had been staying overnight with my siblings in my uncles old farmhouse. I woke in the middle of the night because I had to go to the bathroom. Someone was sitting in the chair next to the bed, when I first woke, I thought it might be my mother. But when I LOOKED it gave me a jolt!! Whatever this was, it was in some sort of black hood/cape, the face looked skeletal. I literally had stopped breathing on seeing it, it was such a shock! I gulped air into my lungs and quickly turned over, burrowing against my younger sister back and needless to say, going to the bathroom was not on my list of priorities....because I had wet myself as well. But there was NO WAY I was turning back around. There was no movement, no sound during this, just the figure. In the morning, everything was back to normal, except for me. I will NEVER forget it.
My second experience happened shortly thereafter at another relatives home. I was again sleeping with my younger sister when something started tickling my foot and then grabbed my ankle. I thought it was her and turned over to tell her to STOP, but she was fast asleep. And those two experiences were my introduction to the paranormal, which has fascinated me from then until now.

Old funeral home
Posted On 05/15/2008 10:58.21 AM

As some of you may know, my daughter is also on this site. She encouraged me to add this about the old funeral home we used to live in.(Before she was born) I did put this story on the TAPS site as well, but since its one of the odder things that has happened to me, I thought I would go ahead and explain about it here as well.
When I was 18 and newly married I lived in a old funeral home (it really looked like a regular house, not the sterotypical 'creepy" place the words "funeral home" bring to mind!). We often had smells of rotting flesh, strong perfume and in one case formaldyhyde( dang it. I will never get the spelling right, lol.) The particular story I am going to post is about me, my nephew and the "soldier".
I had been babysitting my nephews (probably no older than three at the time) and working in the kitchen. He had gone into the back to use the bathroom.(This bathroom was entered by going into the room they used to lay out the bodies in.) Anyway, after a bit, I heard him talking to someone. It was a mans voice but for the life of me I couldnt figure out WHAT he was saying, though I could hear my nephew quite clearly. At first my mind started trying to rationalize, thinking one of the guys had come home. But they would have had to walk by ME. Then I thought maybe somene broke in. Still, there was NO WAY anyone was going to get through those tiny windows and the voice was clearly in the room, closer to the door...confused, I got up to go check just as my nephew was coming out of the bathroom. I said "Who were you talking to, J***?" and what he replied made the hair stand up on the back of my neck! He said "the soldier, the soldier says he's COLD". I KNEW I was going to have to go in that room to check, and gods I didnt want to! But I screwed up my courage and went in. I saw nothing but the entire room REEKED of formaldyhyde. After that I closed the door and left, feeling vaguely ill.
That is by far one of the weirdest things that has happened to me, even after all of these years, and I have experienced a lot.
