"Detroits Fort Wayne Under Siege" by Vivian M. Baulch contains an old Civil War photo of Kelly. http://info.detnews.com/rvmgallery/index.cfm?start=4&project=rvm_ftwayne
Photo No. 4 in the photo slide was taken during a Civil War Reenactment at the fort and portrays my mother and I saying goodbye to my father as he heads off to war. This photo was printed in The Detroit News back in the 1970's. My father is also somewhere in photo No. 5. I'm pretty sure in the first group because the white bearded guy on the far right is Pop Schmitt and he was in our unit. At least I think we were still in the 1st. Mich. Inf. at the time. We were also in the 5th Mich. Inf. at some point in that case he may be in one of the other groups of infantry.
Are you confused? Cause I'm confused; and I lived it!
Addendum:
I feel it important to add that news reporters frequently get the facts twisted. In this case, Photo No. 8 is a funeral for War of 1812 soldiers, whose bodies were found when they were building the People Mover in downtown Detroit not Civil War soldiers, though they share the plot with a number of Civil War Vets and soldiers who died while stationed at Fort Wayne. I ought to know I was in the funeral procession. June 12, 1986 The Detroit News ran the article "Military Funeral Set for 1812 Soldiers" by Mike Martindale.
Photo No. 11 is not of Revolutionary War soldiers that is a French artillery unit from the 1760's a.k.a. the French and Indian War. The coat styles changed between the two wars.
Can you tell I was a history major?
